Miniaturized Brush Roll test rig

Task: Create test procedure and setup to rapidly evaluate cleaning capabilities of prototype brush rolls

Design Goals:

Create a repeatable procedure for measuring miniature brush roll cleanability on plush carpet
Debris must be placed in a repeatable manner
Power supplied to brush rolls must be consistent
Must be able to consistently and accurately measure debris swept up from carpet

Fixture to hold DC motor and prototype brush roll in place at proper height above carpet

Underside of fixture. Height of extrusions underneath fixture is dependent on type of carpet being tested

Circular opening holds DC motor and brush roll

Slanted surface ends at specific height above carpet to catch debris

Stepped surface accommodates debris-catching box used for cleanability measurements

Fixture with DC motor and miniature brush roll mounted - as carpet is moved, brush roll sweeps debris into a box mounted over fixture
