50mL and 100mL pod assembly

Packaging team - responsible for design of the 50mL and 100mL pod assembly, as well as secondary and tertiary packaging for both types of pod assemblies.

My main focus was on the pod assemblies and their individual components.

Cap
  • Polypropylene, injection molded

  • Alignment feature for proper orientation when inserted into appliance

  • "Rolling diaphragm" at center plastically deforms during appliance operation and punctures plug via needle at its base

  • "Castellations" provide space for appliance mechanism to grab cap during operation

Plug
  • Polypropylene base with thermoplastic elastomer overmolded material

  • TPE underneath flange compresses during assembly to form seal against top of bottle neck and radial seal against inside of cap

  • Lid material heat-welded to bottom of plug to seal product within bottle

Label
  • Polypropylene sheet wraps around bottle using an adhesive

  • Perforated sections lie over cap castellations and break during appliance operation

Bottle
  • PET, blow-molded

  • Contains beverage and ensures beverage integrity for specified shelf-life
